Mediterranean Diet again ranked #1

Were you one of the millions of Americans who started the latest “fad” diet on January 1, or at least vowed to improve your eating habits in the New Year?

For the 6th year in a row, the Mediterranean diet was ranked #1 as the “best overall diet” by U.S. News and World Reports.

Although I wouldn’t really call it a “fad” diet because it mainly promotes healthy eating, many Americans find it challenging. It replaces red meat with fish, cuts way down on sugary and processed foods, and swaps olive oil for butter.

I believe there are pros and cons to this diet. The pros are that there is less satuared fat, more fruit and veggies, and less sugar and refined carbs (Sorry, no Twinkies!). The cons are that is is very general, as it includes foods from Greece, Italy, Spain and Portugal. And many people find that there are just too many choices.

Another con is that people often lose weight very slowly, or not at all. Please note that this diet ranked #1 overall, but Weight Watchers and 4 other well known diets ranked higher for weight loss. And let’s face it–the reason most people go on a “diet” is to lose weight.

The main reason that the Mediterranean, or Jenny Craig, or the Keto diet, or any other diet fails is because:

Our brains
DON’T LIKE CHANGE!!!

We are all creatures of habit. Our brains help us develop habits automatically to make our lives easier for us. And this is especially true with eating habits.

How many times have you felt that you “lack the willpower” to stick with a new diet and actually keep the weight off?

How many times have you wished that you could just say “No” to that extra slice of pizza or cake??

If you need help to conquer food cravings, get off the diet roller coaster, and release unwanted weight for good, the New Year is the perfect time to develop a sustainable healthy eating plan.

Let’s face it, the past 3 years have been STRESSFUL for most–if not all–of us!

And I’ve heard from almost everyone that their eating habits have gone down hill.
