Fantastic Fall Foods

Why eat for Fall?

Have you ever heard about Eating Seasonally?
Why do we do it?
Why SHOULD we do it?
Think back to when we used to be hunter-gatherers, thousands of years ago. Our prehistoric ancestors didn’t have the technology we have today, which allows us to ship fruits and veggies all over the globe. They had to subsist on what they could gather each season.Did you know that our physiology now is not much different from back in that time? Our bodies have sophisticated inherent intelligence that prompts us to eat a variety of foods so that we ingest all the nutrients we need.

We want to eat seasonally when we can because our bodies respond well to it on a physiological level. We don’t want to eat any singular food every day for a whole year. Not only will your palate probably sicken of it, but it can also cause food sensitivities and later, intolerances.

What are the best foods for fall? Well, if you’re in the Midwest like I am, I recommend you stick with fruits and veggies like:

  • Apples
  • Pears
  • Sweet Potatoes
  • Broccoli
  • Beets
  • Cabbage
  • Kale
  • Cauliflower
  • Pumpkin
  • Cranberry
  • Squash
This isn’t an exhaustive list, but rather a suggestion on how to stock your pantry and frig. I challenge you to hit up your local farmers market, peruse the goods, and talk with the vendors about how to use the delicious fruits and veggies you find!
